Mel Gibson’s Action Film, GET THE GRINGOT on DIRECTV for Exclusive Premium VOD Debut

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Icon Productions will team on a domestic direct-to-consumer release of Mel Gibson’s new action film GET THE GRINGO in partnership with DIRECTV, the companies announced today. In a move by the film’s producer, co-screenwriter and lead actor Mel Gibson, the action film GET THE GRINGO will bow on DIRECTV Cinema on May 1 for the premium price of $10.99 in HD and will be followed by the film’s wide release on Blu-ray, DVD, VOD and digital download later this year.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Icon Productions will kick off a national marketing campaign for GET THE GRINGO in April with a premiere screening event with Ain’t It Cool News in Austin, Texas. Fans will get a first look at GET THE GRINGO followed by a Q&A hosted by founder Harry Knowles with Mel Gibson, director Adrian Grunberg, and Kevin Hernandez, who stars as the “kid.” Screenings will be held simultaneously in major markets with the subsequent discussion being streamed live to audiences around the country during this unprecedented event.

GET THE GRINGO, an Icon Production starring Mel Gibson, is an explosive action filmed infused with dark comedy directed by Adrian Grunberg from a screenplay he co-wrote with Mel Gibson and Stacy Perskie and produced by Mel Gibson, Bruce Davey and Stacy Perskie. Filmed in Mexico, the multi-lingual film also stars Daniel Gimenez Cacho, Jesus Ochoa, Roberto Sosa, Dolores Heredia, Kevin Hernandez, Fernando Becerril, Mayra Serbullo, Mario Zaragoza, Gerardo Taracena, Tenoch Huerta and Peter Gerety.

During a high-speed car chase with the US Border Patrol and a bleeding body in his back seat, Driver (Mel Gibson) violently crashes his car into the border wall as he tries to outrun them.  Driver survives the crash only to land inside a hard-core Mexican prison where he enters the strange and dangerous world of “El Pueblito.”  He finds unlikely guidance from a 10-year-old kid who shows him the ropes.
