AKArt presents A ten-week online course guiding artists

Committed to democratizing access to and within the art world, AKArt presents AKArt MENTOR—a ten-week online course—which guides artists, providing information, tools, and strategies, as well as introductions to key people, organizations, and mechanisms that make up the field, while demystifying the interdependence between them. Register now to secure a spot for the fall session, which begins September 9, 2015.

Over the last 10 years, the increasingly global art market has grown in scope and influence—causing diversification within the visual arts ecosystem—which has created new and outside-the-box opportunities for artists as they traverse the existing infrastructures and challenges of the contemporary art world. With AKArt MENTOR, artists will gain an understanding of how to negotiate the challenges and opportunities of the art world through lectures and personal insights from industry expert guest speakers, including gallerists, art advisors, curators, and auction house professionals, as well as individuals connected to marketing and PR, art writing, publishing, criticism, collections management, and art fairs. The course incorporates one-on-one reviews, with guidance to build sustainable tools for your artistic practice—including portfolio reviews, so you can clearly communicate your work to the world, in writing, in person, and online. Amy Kisch, creator of the course and Founder + CEO of AKArt Advisory, previously ran Sotheby’s Preferred—the auction house’s worldwide VIP program for its top clients—curating, producing, and marketing VIP programming such as the Sotheby’s Preferred Museum Programme, Preferred Art Fair Programme, and The Economist Lecture series. Prior to that, Ms. Kisch worked at Sotheby’s creating highly-customized business-winning proposals for the company’s major private, institutional, corporate, and museum clients—resulting in consignments totaling more than $400 million during her tenure.

During her time at Sotheby’s, she concurrently held the roles of Executive Director and Corporate and Community Liaison for the Williamsburg Gallery Association. She has been integral in the production and curation of numerous successful art ventures, including collaborations and partnerships with ABC TV, ARTLOG, Artnet, ARTnews, Art Basel Miami Beach, Art Chicago, Art Production Fund, Assouline, AT&T, Brooklyn ARTillery, Brooklyn Tourism, caribBEING, The Carlyle, Eli Wilner and Company, Flatbush Film Festival, Hard Press Editions, iCollect, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, The Mark Hotel, New York City Opera, Northside Music + Arts Festival, NYFA Young Patrons Circle, Petrossian, Sotheby’s Diamonds, Sotheby’s Institute, Sotheby’s International Realty, The Armory Show, Whitney Contemporaries, and Williamsburg Every 2:ND Friday, among others.
