U2 to Release Shadow Album ‘How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb’ with Unreleased Tracks

Legendary Irish rock band U2 is marking the 20th anniversary of their Grammy-winning album How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb with a dual celebration that includes new and previously unreleased material. Announced by Interscope Records, the band will release How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb, a shadow album featuring 10 songs from the original sessions that have never been heard before. Alongside this, a fully remastered version of How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb will be available, giving fans a new perspective on the era that produced one of U2’s most iconic records.

Set to drop on November 29, 2024, for Record Store Day Black Friday, How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb offers a treasure trove of rediscovered material from the vaults of U2’s studio archives. The band, particularly guitarist The Edge, has expressed excitement over finding these songs, which capture a raw and visceral energy from a creative period that was both personal and experimental for the band.

Key Details:

  • New Shadow Album Release: How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb includes 10 unreleased tracks from the original 2004 recording sessions, out November 29, 2024.
  • First Two Tracks Released: Fans can already listen to the first two singles, “Country Mile” and “Picture of You (X + W)”, available now with accompanying lyric videos.
  • Remastered Anniversary Edition: The remastered version of How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, featuring the bonus track “Fast Cars”, will be released on November 22, 2024, across multiple formats, including vinyl, CD, and digital.
  • Special Releases for Record Store Day Black Friday: A Limited Edition Black & Red Marble 1LP Vinyl will be available exclusively for Record Store Day, alongside the standalone digital release.

This dual release highlights U2’s enduring creativity and deep connection to their work during the early 2000s. Fans can look forward to a fresh experience of both the familiar tracks and these newly discovered gems from one of rock’s most celebrated bands.
