On Saturday, January 18, 2020, Shared Harvest will honor celebrities and community leaders who use their voices for impact at its first in a series, Sounds of Goodness Concert, held in conjunction with The Blackbird House and Grand Performances.
Shared Harvest was founded by three African American women physicians who created the first ever, enterprise-level volunteer management solution and student debt rewards platform. Through the platform, professionals and employees may sign on to produce work for nonprofits who otherwise could not afford much needed, high quality business services, in exchange for stipends towards their student debt. To date, the organization has saved nonprofits over $120,000 and paid out over $30,000 in student loan relief.
The premier Sounds of Goodness Concert Tribute will honor three Changemaker Ambassadors:
Melitta Johnson – Founder, Elgin Foundation for Wellness
Actress Taraji P. Henson – Founder, Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation
Actor/Comedian Hasan Minhaj – Patriot Act
Founder Nana Afoh Manin explains, “I am not only a founder of Shared Harvest, I am also an ER doctor who knows a crisis when she sees one. Three years ago, I and two other female doctors put down our stethoscopes and picked up coding to create technology that would address the crisis of student debt and declining mental health in an innovative and sustainable way. We are thrilled to honor celebrity ambassadors who are willing to use their voices and speak out about the challenges and disparities between the mental healthcare system, human resource drought, and the $1.6 trillion student debt crisis, faced by many immigrants and communities of color.”
