Palm Springs International Film Festival Present Two-Time Academy Award winning actress Sally Field

The 24th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) will present two-time Academy Award® winning actress Sally Field with its Career Achievement Award.  Presented by Cartier, the Awards Gala will be held Saturday, January 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.  Hosted by Mary Hart, the Gala will also present awards to previously announced honorees the cast of Argo, Helen Hunt, Naomi Watts and Robert Zemeckis.  The Festival runs January 3-14.

“From her all-American girl roles that brought her early stardom on television to her memorable and award-winning film performances, Sally Field has impressed generations of audiences with her incredible range,” said Film Festival Chairman Harold Matzner.  “In her latest film, Lincoln, Field takes on the challenging role of First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln and gives a compelling performance as one of history’s most iconic women.  For her stellar body of work, the Palm Springs International Film Festival is proud to honor Sally Field with the 2013 Career Achievement Award.”

Past Career Achievement Award honorees include Glenn Close, Robert Duvall, Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren.

Steven Spielberg directs two-time Academy Award® winner Sally Field in Lincoln, a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery.  With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.

Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook and Tommy Lee Jones, Lincoln is produced by Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, with a screenplay by Tony Kushner, based in part on the book “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” by Doris Kearns Goodwin. The DreamWorks Pictures/Twentieth Century Fox film, in association with Participant Media.

Field received the New York Film Critics Circle’s Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the film.

Sally Field is a two-time Academy Award winner for her performances in Places in the Heart, for which she also received a Golden Globe®, and Norma Rae, for which she received a Golden Globe, along with the New York Film Critics Circle prize, the National Board of Review Award, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award, the National Society of Film Critics honor and Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival. Field has also received Golden Globe nominations for her work in Steel Magnolias, Murphy’s Romance, Kiss Me Goodbye, Absence of Malice and Smokey and the Bandit.  Her many film credits include Forrest Gump, Eye for an Eye, Mrs. Doubtfire, Soapdish, Not Without My Daughter, The End, Hooper, Stay Hungry and Punchline.  Most recently, Field appeared as Aunt May in The Amazing Spider-Man, which opened in July of this year.

Field began her career in the television series Gidget and then went on to star in the The Flying Nun.  She received Emmy® Awards for her title role in the landmark miniseries Sybil and for her performance on ER.  She also received Emmy nominations for her role in Showtime’s A Cooler Climate and the NBC miniseries A Woman of Independent Means, which she co-produced and for which she received a Golden Globe nomination. Field co-starred in the ABC series drama Brothers & Sisters from 2006 to 2011, and for her role as Nora Walker, she received a Screen Actors Guild Award® and an Emmy Award as well as two Golden Globe nominations.
