This season’s bridal collection from Badgley Mischka is inspired by the sophistication and elegance of 1930’s fashion icon Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor. Silhouettes highlight the designers’ glamorous Old Hollywood signature look and feature mainly slinky, lean and languid gowns with dramatic beading and embroidery.
The Hair Look
Designed by leading runway and editorial hairstylist Peter Gray for Moroccanoil, the hair looks are masterful and creative. Though inspired by the sophistication of the 30’s, the styles are very modern in their simple elegance and soft, natural glamour.
“I wanted to create bridal hair that was fresh, cool and simple,” said Gray. White silk flowers accent the looks but break clichés of wedding hair as multiple blooms are strategically grouped in a linear modern placement. In homage to Wallis Simpson, the hair is parted directly in the center (or slightly off-center depending upon the model’s features, and to soften the severity of the center part).
How Peter Gray Created The Look
- “I first sprayed Moroccanoil Frizz Control all over the hair to keep it smooth and manageable. Next, to give hair a bit of substance without any weight, I worked a bit of Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream throughout its length. I then blow dried the hair straight with a Moroccanoil Professional Series Hair Dryer using a Moroccanoil XLPRO Paddle Brush.”
- “Once the texture of the hair was right, I placed a comb diagonally in front of the ear, pointing downwards to the nape, and started rolling the hair at that angle. I continued to add in a bit more hair as I worked my way down to the neck area, creating a soft, pretty twist. I repeated this process on the other side.”
- “At the nape, I overlapped the two roped ponytails and used a large darning needle threaded with spooled sewing elastic to sew them together.”
- “Once the two roped rolls were fastened, I twisted the remaining ponytails below, then overlapped and crossed them to the opposite sides. I knotted these two twists into a chignon and pinned them at the base of the neck, spraying on a bit of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong. This worked to give the ponytails a bit of texture, prevent slipping and to give the hair more ‘grip.’”
- “Finally, to make the style look even more modern and natural, I created a bit of texture on the roped sections. To do this, I pulled out little fine sections of hair with my fingertips, then finished with a light spritz of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong.” It’s a great formula, and sprays out in a fine mist to hold the hair, yet leave it soft, workable and with a natural shine.”
- “To finish, I added multiple white silk flowers to the style to change up the classic, Gauguin-like, wedding look of one flower behind the ear. Instead, I used flowers in three different linear placements on each model, in different directions to follow the angular, twisted rolls of hair.”
