Lionsgate Hosts Exclusive Screening of Freaky Tales at Oakland’s Grand Lake Theatre

Last night, the historic Grand Lake Theatre in Oakland was buzzing with excitement as Lionsgate hosted a special screening of Freaky Tales, an upcoming action-packed thriller set to hit theaters on April 4. The film, written and directed by Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, transports audiences back to 1987 Oakland, weaving together multiple intersecting storylines in a gritty, pulse-pounding cinematic mixtape.

Star-Studded Event in the Bay Area

The exclusive screening drew an impressive lineup of stars, including Pedro Pascal, Dominique Thorne, Ben Mendelsohn, Jack Champion, Ji-young Yoo, and Jay Ellis. Also in attendance were the film’s co-directors and writers, Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, along with producers Jelani Johnson and Poppy Hanks, and executive producers David Weintraub and hip-hop icon Too $hort. Special guests, including NBA legend Eric Augustus “Sleepy” Floyd and Tamra Goins, joined the celebration, making it a truly memorable night for Bay Area film enthusiasts.

Following the screening, guests continued the festivities at Dragon Gate, where they celebrated the film’s unique blend of action, humor, and hip-hop culture, all set against the backdrop of 1980s Oakland.
