The International House of Blues Foundation (IHOBF) has awarded L.A.C.E.R Afterschool Programs a $2,500 instrument grant as part of the 2013 Action for the Arts Grants. L.A.C.E.R.’s Rock Band program at five Hollywood-area schools will receive their new instruments on Tuesday, October 8., at Hollywood High School. “IHOBF is dedicated to helping students bring their music to life through programs like our Action for the Arts Grants,” said IHOBF Executive Director Marjorie Gilberg. “By supporting a program like L.A.C.E.R.’s Rock Band, we’re able to provide resources to meet a need that would otherwise go unfunded.”
Several House of Blues Sunset Strip team members and IHOBF staff will deliver the new instruments to students at approximately 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. “We are excited and truly fortunate to be able to help local music programs like this. These young musicians are the future of our rich and diverse live music culture,” said House of Blues Sunset Strip General Manager Pietra Bijos. The Rock Band Program is a core component of L.A.C.E.R.’s free after-school arts programming at Bancroft, Irving and LeConte middle schools and Hollywood and Fairfax high schools. Working with professional instructors, Rock Band students learn how to play instruments as well as how to read, write and arrange music. The program culminates in performance opportunities for the students.
