Today, Google, Team USA, and NBCUniversal announced a groundbreaking partnership, designating Google as the Official Search AI Partner of Team USA for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first time Google has entered into a partnership with Team USA.

Enhancing Athlete Stories and Viewer Engagement

The collaboration aims to leverage Google’s AI-powered features to bring athlete stories and competition highlights to life, enhancing NBCUniversal’s coverage of the Games. This partnership will provide a more dynamic and engaging viewing experience, combining the best of technology and sports.

Key Features of the Partnership:

Explain the Games with Google:

  • NBCUniversal will utilize Google Search’s AI Overviews during coverage to help viewers explore and understand various aspects of the Games.
  • AI Overviews will provide quick, comprehensive answers to questions, like the importance of lane assignments in swimming.
  • This feature will also extend to NBCUniversal’s social media platforms, increasing its reach.

Try it with Google Gemini:

  • Leslie Jones, Chief Superfan Commentator, will use Google’s AI Assistant, Gemini, to engage with viewers.
  • Gemini will help Jones create custom content, learn new sports, and entertain fans across NBCUniversal’s networks and Peacock.

One Day in Paris:

  • Social videos and late-night promos will feature five Olympians and Paralympians exploring Paris using Google’s AI-powered tools like Google Lens and Immersive View in Google Maps.
  • These features will highlight how AI can enhance the exploration of the host city’s iconic landmarks.

Enhanced 3D Broadcasts:

  • Google Maps Platform’s Photorealistic 3D Tiles will provide immersive views of Olympic venues in Paris.
  • Viewers will enjoy detailed 3D perspectives of locations such as Versailles and Stade Roland Garros.

Coverage Details

NBC and Peacock will present live coverage of the Opening Ceremony on Friday, July 26, beginning at Noon ET, with Spanish-language coverage on Telemundo starting at 1 p.m. ET. Primetime coverage will start at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and Peacock. NBCUniversal holds the U.S. media rights to the Olympic Games through 2032, ensuring extensive coverage across its platforms.
