September 6, 2024) BRIT Award-winning singer/songwriter Tom Walker has just released the title track to his much-anticipated new album I Am. Following an electrifying summer of performances across UK and European festivals, the heartfelt and powerful track sets the tone for an album that is deeply personal and reflective.
The title track “I Am” showcases a blend of subdued beats and keys, perfectly complementing Tom’s raw and honest vocals. The song transitions from a delicate introspection into an energetic burst of sound, embodying the album’s thematic exploration of self-discovery. As Tom explains, I Am is about his four-year journey to understand who he truly is, both in his personal life and as an artist: “This record is a snapshot of what’s been going on in my life, and what’s made me happy, sad, ecstatic, or miserable.”
The album, set for release on September 20, 2024, has already captivated fans with pre-released tracks like “Burn,” “Freaking Out,” “Head Underwater,” and “Holy Ghost.” Walker recently performed “Burn” and “Freaking Out” on Later…With Jools Holland, further building anticipation for the full album release.
Unlike his previous work, which often focused on the experiences of others, I Am delves into Tom’s personal struggles with anxiety, creative blockages, and moments of despair. This emotional authenticity marks a significant evolution in his songwriting, providing a raw glimpse into who Tom Walker is today.
During the creative process, Walker found himself in a rut, discarding numerous tracks. However, a writing trip to Los Angeles with the McDonough brothers, Toby Gadd, and other renowned producers (with credits including Beyoncé, Joji, and John Legend) reignited his passion for music. The results of this trip are now featured prominently in I Am, delivering some of his most deeply felt work to date.
Walker will embark on an intimate UK in-store tour in September before heading to North America and Europe for headline shows. He will also join The Script for a major UK and European arena tour in November and December.
