35th Annual Man v Horse 2014 – Horse Is Victorious In Front Of Record Numbers

Leo the horse, ridden by Geoffrey Allen was victorious against Man at the 2014 Man V Horse race powered by Whole Earth Peanut Butter, with a time of 2hrs 23.08 secs. A record 430 solo runners, 130 relay teams, and 56 of their four-legged rivals powered through a 23.6 mile endurance race around Llanwrtyd Wells on Saturday 14th June 2014, which saw the new title sponsor Whole Earth Peanut Butter fuelling people to success with their peanut butter power balls.

The idea for the event was born in 1980 where local landlord Gordon Green overheard a discussion between two men in his pub, the Nevadd arms suggesting that a man was equal to any horse over a great distance. The first race was put to the test in 1982 though it took a lengthy 25 years before a man finally beat a horse to the finish line by two minutes.

The prize money increases each year the horse remains unbeaten, the first winner came in 2004. Huw Lobb who had a time of 2hrs 5 minutes, 19 seconds received £25,000 for winning the 25th race as the first ever man to win against a horse. With no human winner this year, the money rolls over to next year.
