This Valentine’s Day, romance takes a backseat to revenge in Love Hurts, a high-octane action thriller from 87North, the production team behind Nobody, Violent Night, Bullet Train, and Atomic Blonde. The film marks the leading man debut of Oscar® winner Ke Huy Quan, fresh off his acclaimed performances in Everything Everywhere All at Once and Loki. Quan plays Marvin Gable, a seemingly mild-mannered Milwaukee realtor who has spent years trying to outrun a violent past—only to find that the past isn’t done with him yet.
When Marvin receives a blood-red envelope, his carefully rebuilt life is shattered. The message is from Rose, his former partner-in-crime played by Oscar® winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story, Argylle). Once left for dead, Rose is alive—and furious. Soon, Marvin is forced back into the world of contract killers, double-crosses, and high-stakes betrayals.
If Rose wasn’t enough of a problem, Marvin’s estranged brother Knuckles, a brutal crime lord played by Daniel Wu (Tomb Raider, Warcraft), is also closing in. With enemies on all sides and no way out, Marvin must navigate open houses turned into battlegrounds, high-speed chases through suburban streets, and brutal hand-to-hand combat, all while trying to atone for a lifetime of bad decisions.
The film boasts an electrifying, genre-defying cast that brings both grit and charisma to the screen. In addition to Quan and DeBose, audiences can look forward to seeing Super Bowl champion Marshawn “Beastmode” Lynch (Bottoms, 80 for Brady), Mustafa Shakir (Emancipation, Luke Cage), Lio Tipton (Crazy, Stupid, Love.), Rhys Darby (Jumanji: The Next Level), André Eriksen (Violent Night), and Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings).
The film is helmed by JoJo Eusebio, an acclaimed stunt and fight coordinator making his feature film directorial debut. Having shaped the action in films like John Wick, Black Panther, The Matrix Resurrections, and Deadpool 2, Eusebio brings his signature high-impact style to Love Hurts. Fans can expect a mix of brutal hand-to-hand combat, stylized shootouts, and adrenaline-pumping set pieces that redefine the action genre.
Written by Matthew Murray, Josh Stoddard, and Luke Passmore, Love Hurts is produced by Kelly McCormick, David Leitch, and Guy Danella, with Ben Ormand serving as executive producer.
With a killer soundtrack, a powerhouse cast, and breakneck action sequences, Love Hurts proves that no matter how hard you try, you can’t break up with your past. Catch it in theaters this Valentine’s Day—just don’t expect roses and chocolates.
