The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and AEG have announced a major new global partnership that will reshape the future home of the Oscars. Beginning with the 101st Oscars ceremony in 2029, the prestigious awards show will move to L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles, where the ceremony will take place in the venue currently known as Peacock Theater. The agreement will continue through 2039, marking a bold new era for one of the entertainment industry’s most iconic nights.
This new partnership brings together two major forces in entertainment. The Academy, known worldwide for celebrating excellence in film, is aligning with AEG, one of the most powerful companies in sports and live entertainment. AEG owns and operates L.A. LIVE, the internationally recognized 23-acre sports and entertainment district located next to Crypto.com Arena in the heart of Los Angeles. The move signals a fresh vision for the Oscars, one designed to elevate both the in-person and global viewing experience.
As part of the agreement, AEG will make comprehensive upgrades to the theater to ensure it is fully equipped for Hollywood’s biggest night. Planned enhancements include improvements to the stage, sound, lighting systems, lobbies, backstage facilities, and other essential production spaces. AEG will also work closely with the Academy to introduce custom design elements that support the scale, elegance, and technical needs of the Oscars ceremony. The recently expanded L.A. LIVE plaza will also play a central role by hosting red carpet arrivals and related activities.
The announcement also reflects the Academy’s continued embrace of evolving global media platforms. In addition to the venue shift, the partnership notes that the theater will be the first Oscars venue to host the ceremony when it becomes available on YouTube through an exclusive global rights deal with the Academy, also beginning in 2029. Until then, the Oscars will remain at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and continue to air live on ABC in more than 200 territories worldwide through the 100th Oscars in 2028.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor praised AEG’s expertise in building and operating technologically sophisticated live performance venues. AEG Chief Revenue Officer Todd Goldstein added that L.A. LIVE was built to host defining cultural moments, making it an ideal future home for the Oscars. Together, the organizations aim to create an unforgettable setting that honors cinematic excellence while enhancing the fan experience worldwide.
