Miss Universe Organization Secures Multi-Year Distribution Deals with Roku Channel

Roku Channel and Telemundo

The Miss Universe Organization (MUO), responsible for the iconic MISS UNIVERSE competition, has announced new multi-year distribution agreements with The Roku Channel and Telemundo. These deals will cover the U.S. streaming and broadcast markets, offering the competition to audiences in both English and Spanish languages. The 72nd Annual Finale is scheduled to take place on November 18, 2023.

The 2023 MISS UNIVERSE competition will be held live in El Salvador and will be executive produced by Sergio Alfaro and his LA-based production company InventTV, alongside Paula Shugart and Anne Jakrajutatip for Miss Universe.

MUO CEO, Amy Emmerich, expressed her excitement about partnering with The Roku Channel and Telemundo for the next few years. She emphasized the brand’s forward-looking vision and the exceptional support from the audience and broadcast partners. In January 2023, the 71st Miss Universe finale streamed on The Roku Channel for the first time and became the most-streamed live program on the platform, reaching millions of viewers with both live and on-demand replays.

David Eilenberg, Head of Content at Roku Media, shared his pleasure in continuing the partnership with the Miss Universe Organization, highlighting the success of last year’s broadcast and the appetite for live programming in a free streaming environment.

For Telemundo, the MISS UNIVERSE finale ranked as the #1 entertainment program in its Saturday night slot across broadcast and cable for adults 18-49, drawing an average of 875,000 viewers in the 18-49 demographic and 2.4 million total viewers on linear. It was also the top-ranked Spanish-language TV program in its time slot in major markets, including Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Dallas, and Chicago.

Ronald Day, President of Entertainment and Content Strategy for Telemundo, expressed excitement about bringing the competition back to the audience live from El Salvador, a Latin American country rich in beauty and culture. He praised the event for showcasing diverse cultures and recognizing women who have positively impacted their countries and empowered others.

The 2023 MISS UNIVERSE competition will feature women from over 90 countries, representing six continents, vying for the title and the opportunity to bring attention to their social-impact causes on a global stage. The organization has a remarkable history of empowering women and launching successful careers in various fields.

MUO President Paula Shugart expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming event, while Sergio Alfaro looked forward to bridging the English- and Spanish-speaking markets through producing an extraordinary show for the 165 countries that will tune in.

The Miss Universe Organization is owned by JKN Global Group Public Company Limited, a major media, content, and commerce holding company listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

The MISS UNIVERSE competition continues to be a global celebration of women’s empowerment, providing a platform for positive change and inspiring future leaders.
