Meryl Streep, Rick Springfield Motion Picture Soundtrack. Republic Records will release the Ricki and the Flash Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on Friday, August 7th 2015. The TriStar Pictures film, directed by legendary Oscar®-winning director Jonathan Demme and written by Academy Award®-winning writer Diablo Cody, is out in theaters everywhere the same day.

To prepare for her role as Ricki Rendazzo, the leader of the cover band Ricki and the Flash, three-time Academy Award® winner Meryl Streep already a talented singer – trained for months to play the guitar.  Streep’s skill on the axe can now be heard on the soundtrack, as she leads an all-star group of musicians  including GRAMMY Award-winning rock hero Rick Springfield, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Bernie Worrell on keyboards, legendary bassist Rick Rosas, and veteran drummer Joe Vitale.  Together, they are Ricki and the Flash.

The album features Ricki and the Flash performing classic rock ‘n’ roll tunes, from such staples as “American Girl, “Wooly Bully,and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” to contemporary favorites including Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and P!nk’s “Get The Party Started.

The full track listing also includes an original song penned for the film—“Cold One,” written byJenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice – and additional music from Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, and more.  All pre-orders of the soundtrack unlock an immediate download of “Cold One,” as well as “Drift Away” on July 31.  Listen to “Cold One” HERE now.

Meryl Streep takes on a whole new gig – a hard-rocking singer/guitarist – for Oscar®-winning director Jonathan Demme and Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody in Ricki and the Flash. In an original film loaded with live musical performances, Streep stars as Ricki Rendazzo, a guitar heroine who made a world of mistakes as she followed her dreams of rock-and-roll stardom. Returning home, Ricki gets a shot at redemption and a chance to make things right as she faces the music with her family. Streep stars opposite her real-life daughter Mamie Gummer; Rick Springfield, portraying a Flash member in love with Ricki; Kevin Kline as Ricki’s ex-husband; and Audra McDonald as Kline’s new wife.
