The premier contemporary fashion event, announces a special initiative and highlighted exhibit called Threads & Fins for its August 19-21st show. PROJECT president Tommy Fazio tapped sports commentator and avid surfer Sal Masekela, as well as surf brand influencer and UNIV co-founder Tim Swart, to curate a collection of brands that encapsulate surf culture and California lifestyle. PROJECT’s newest initiative will allow buyers to discover surf-inspired apparel ahead of the curve for the next season. “We are passionate about bringing brands and retailers together in compelling ways that facilitate commerce and build relationships,” said PROJECT President Tommy Fazio.
The brands in the Threads & Fins exhibit are easily shopped and merchandised to present an expressive story of California influence and surf culture. “Surfing has always been a unique subculture standing for freedom of expression, attitude, progressive design, being authentic and just plain riding waves,” commented co-curator Tim Swart. Surf brand UNIV, led by Swart, will display its classic yet quirky personality with its collection of California-made premium denim, t-shirts, and more. Through this initiative made possible by PROJECT, UNIV will be available for wholesale purchase for the first time in the US at the Las Vegas show.
To further intersect surf culture with men’s fashion, elements of the “surfboard-shaping” process will come to life in a 25-foot mobile AIRstream, inspiring adventure and exemplifying the culture of the selected Threads & Fins brands. Custom PROJECT surfboards, created by Swart and Masekela, will be on display at THE TENTS @ PROJECT in “Tommy’s EDIT” section, showcasing the talent of the coveted surf designers exclusively.The following is a selection of brands that are confirmed to showcase at the Threads & Fins exhibit from August 19-21st:
