Moshe Lewis Grammy Award backstage report following the award show:
Bonnie Raitt just won song of the year for a passionate heart felt song “Just Like That” which speaks to the importance of giving one’s organs to another when no other options to sustain quality of life exist. It was clear that going up against such popular artists as Beyonce and Adele as well as Harry Styles, LIzzo and Taylor Swift, Ms. Raitt was in pure shock with her win. She said “I would not be here tonight if it were not for the soul digging that songwriters all over do.” The positive resonance of her song and the emphasis on helping others in need gains worldwide recognition with this Grammy nod. It also shows, it’s never too late to write a Grammy winning song.
Although I got to see her backstage, I could not ask her more about the impact of her song. She said however, that she looks forward to women continuing to move up in the business and to the importance of using music to literally heal our land.
Muni Long who won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance says that she hopes there is a little one out there who will be inspired by her. She also hopes that others will share her vision in a broader way as she had to fight for some of her creativity. It’s also exciting that she just released her Grammy award-winning song in Spanish. She promises to bring even more diverse musical genres to her next album. She also hopes that her voice will continue to be stronger than ever with this win and that microaggressions will be more limited because she “does know what she is talking about ”
