CIRQUE DU SOLEIL TO RELEASE SOUNDTRACK TO AMALUNA ON NOVEMBER 19TH

On November 19, 2012 Cirque du Soleil® presents the soundtrack to AmalunaTM, an album featuring music from its newest touring show. Amaluna just completed its run in Toronto, ON and is currently preparing to debut in Vancouver, BC on November 23, 2012. The show premieres in the US in Seattle, WA at King County’s Marymoor Park on January 31, 2013 and runs through February 24, 2013. The fourteen tracks that comprise the Amaluna soundtrack were all composed by Guy Dubuc and Mark Lassard (aka BOB & BILL) and were recorded in May and the summer months of 2012. The live show features an all woman band performing some of the edgiest music to come out of the Cirque du Soleil camp to date.

The show Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. The queen of the island, Prospera, directs her daughter’s coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honors femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next.

Amaluna composers and arrangers BOB & BILL set out to create a unique, raw sound. The duo use guitars with bass, drums, cello, vocals, keyboards, percussion support to deliver an unexpected overall contemporary sound that remains true to the Cirque du Soleil feel that core fans will appreciate. “We wanted to unleash the power in the raw state that artists and musicians bring to the stage,” explain BOB & BILL.

The musicians share the stage with acrobats at times, which combines perfectly with the energy of the score. Amaluna is the first Cirque du Soleil show with an all-female group of musicians and for the first time at Cirque du Soleil, the cast of the show is 70% female, with 50 artists hailing from 15 different countries. Show Director Diane Paulus says, “Amaluna is less about feminism and more about reconnecting to our world in a different way.” BOB & BILL add,”We wanted to reflect the guts and intense attitude of these musicians through the music itself.”

A version of the lead-off track “All Come Together” from the Amaluna soundtrack featuring invented language is also included on the new Cirque du Soleil compilation, LE BEST OF 2, which was just released on November 6th and is comprised of Cirque’s finest music spanning from 2005 to today.
To date, Cirque du Soleil has brought wonder and delight to more than 100 million spectators in over 250 cities and 54 countries, producing over 600 songs by 77 writers and/or composers. In 2012, the company has presented 20 different shows simultaneously around the world. Cirque du Soleil continues to work with innovative international composers who propel the Montreal troupe through a variety of musical styles: from cabaret and pop avenues to world music exploration; from modern rock sounds to full orchestral scores, with much of these elements coming to life on the eclectic and driving soundtrack of Amaluna.
