Americans are projected to spend a staggering $2.5 billion on dating apps in 2023

Americans are projected to spend a staggering $2.5 billion on dating apps in 2023, surpassing the combined spending of Chinese, Japanese, and British users, according to data from OnlyAccounts.io. With more than 20 million Americans embracing dating apps in the past five years alone, the United States stands as the largest online dating market globally.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which saw a surge in the popularity of dating apps amid lockdowns, had a temporary impact on revenues. However, the industry experienced a significant drop in revenue as life returned to normal in 2022. Despite this setback, the US dating services industry witnessed a solid 1.7% year-over-year growth, generating $2.39 billion in revenue.

Statista predicts that the US dating services industry will see a 3.7% growth in 2023, reaching a value of $2.48 billion. Online dating will account for the largest share of revenue at $1.35 billion, followed by matchmaking services at $840 million and casual dating services at $290 million. The market is expected to maintain steady growth, reaching $2.68 billion by 2027.

The US is also witnessing a steady rise in the number of online dating app users. Nearly 20 million Americans have tried dating apps and websites in the past five years, bringing the total user count to 73.6 million in 2023. Statista estimates that this number will further increase by 6.3 million, with nearly 80 million Americans using dating apps by 2027.

Millennials constitute the largest user group in the US online dating market, accounting for almost 60% of total users. This growth is fueled by the convenience and accessibility of dating apps and websites. Among the available options, Tinder remains the most popular choice, preferred by approximately 16% of all dating app users in the US. Bumble holds the second spot with a 14% share, followed by Hinge and MeetMe, each with a 10% share.

The US dating app market continues to thrive, attracting millions of users and generating significant revenue. As technology advances and online dating becomes even more ingrained in society, the industry is poised for sustained growth in the coming years.
