BLACK BEAT Magazine Returns During BET Weekend

For more than four decades, BLACK BEAT Magazine has stood as one of the pioneering publications dedicated to celebrating Black music, entertainment, and culture. Since its original launch in October 1983, the magazine has chronicled the careers of legendary performers, rising stars, and influential tastemakers while documenting the evolution of Black entertainment. Now, during BET Weekend 2026, the iconic publication officially returns with a bold new vision that honors its historic legacy while embracing the future of multimedia storytelling.

The relaunch event took place on Sunday evening immediately following the BET Awards, serving as one of the weekend’s premier curated cultural experiences celebrating Black Music Month and the enduring influence of Black creativity. The room was filled with an impressive cross-section of entertainment industry leaders. Lisa Lisa of Cult Jam was in the house, along with Girlfriends star Golden Brooks, BET casting director and producer Natasha Ward-Shaw, musicians, actors, television personalities, comedians, influencers, producers, members of the General Hospital cast, executives, and countless entertainment professionals. It was a packed celebration, with hundreds gathering to support the return of one of Black entertainment’s most recognizable media brands.

Helping lead this exciting new chapter is Kevin, one of the publication’s founding investors and driving forces behind the relaunch. During the celebration, Kevin candidly discussed the realities of reviving a respected legacy publication in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape. He acknowledged that independent publishing comes with challenges—from adapting to digital audiences to maintaining authentic storytelling—but emphasized that there remains a tremendous demand for trusted voices that celebrate Black culture with integrity, purpose, and excellence.

The relaunch issue proudly features Brandy Norwood on the cover, honoring her extraordinary career while celebrating Black Music Month. The cover represents more than a tribute to one artist—it signals the beginning of a renewed editorial vision that will continue well beyond June and into July with celebrity interviews, exclusive features, music industry reporting, entertainment news, lifestyle content, and stories highlighting Black excellence across television, film, business, fashion, and culture.

Throughout the evening, guests reflected on the importance of preserving legacy Black media while introducing the brand to a new generation of readers. BLACK BEAT Magazine has long served as a trusted platform for artists and creators, and its return arrives at a time when authentic cultural storytelling is more valuable than ever. The relaunch is not simply the return of a magazine—it represents the continuation of a legacy that has documented Black entertainment history for more than 40 years.

Adding even more excitement to the relaunch, BLACK BEAT Magazine announced plans for future national celebrations, including the highly anticipated Aaliyah “Rock the Boat” Tribute Cruise, along with additional live experiences, celebrity events, and editorial initiatives designed to celebrate the rich history of Black music and culture across the country.
