UMe Celebrates 40 Years of Pretty in Pink With Limited-Edition Vinyl Soundtrack Release

PRETTY IN PINK

Los Angeles, CA — January 23, 2026 — Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the timeless coming-of-age film Pretty in Pink with a newly reissued, limited-edition color vinyl soundtrack, arriving March 13, 2026. Four decades after its original release, Pretty in Pink remains a defining cultural touchstone—one whose music continues to shape identity, memory, and emotion across generations.

Written and executive-produced by John Hughes, the 1986 classic starred Molly Ringwald in one of her most iconic roles, alongside Andrew McCarthy, Harry Dean Stanton, Jon Cryer, Annie Potts, and James Spader. While the film’s story of class divides, first love, and self-discovery resonated deeply, it was the soundtrack that crystallized the film’s emotional DNA. For many fans, the music of Pretty in Pink is inseparable from the moments, moods, and milestones of growing up.

The soundtrack is anchored by era-defining tracks that helped define the New Wave and alternative pop landscape of the 1980s. From The Psychedelic Furs’ Top 5 hit “Pretty in Pink” to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark’s unforgettable “If You Leave,” the album became a sonic roadmap for a generation navigating love, longing, and belonging. Songs by The Smiths, Echo & The Bunnymen, New Order, INXS, and more transformed the film into a musical time capsule that still feels strikingly current today.

The 40th Anniversary edition will be released as a limited-edition “Pretty in Baby Pink” 1LP, housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve featuring original film photography. For the first time, the soundtrack will also include two bonus tracks previously unavailable on the album: Otis Redding’s soul classic “Try a Little Tenderness” and Talk Back’s “Rudy.” A standard-weight black vinyl 1LP featuring the original tracklist will also be available for collectors and longtime fans alike.

Released with the cooperation of Hughes Music and Paramount Pictures, the anniversary soundtrack honors not just the music, but the enduring emotional impact of Pretty in Pink. As vinyl continues its resurgence, this commemorative pressing offers both nostalgia and discovery—inviting longtime fans to relive cherished memories while introducing a new generation to a soundtrack that helped define cinematic cool.

In addition to the vinyl release, Pretty in Pink will return to theaters for a special 40th anniversary engagement over Valentine’s weekend, February 13–16, in remastered 4K Ultra HD. The re-release underscores the film’s lasting relevance and reaffirms its place in pop-culture history as one of the most beloved romantic dramas of all time.
