The GRAMMY Museum® will debut its latest exhibit — All Eyez on Me: The Writings of Tupac Shakur — on Monday, Feb. 2, in cooperation with the Estate of Tupac Shakur. The exhibition will explore the GRAMMY-nominated artist’s songwriting talent and celebrate Shakur’s legacy as a magnetic performer, charismatic actor, heartfelt poet and outspoken social activist.
“Tupac Shakur was one of the most original and important of all hip hop artists. His writings are both powerful and provocative,” said Bob Santelli, Executive Director of the GRAMMY Museum. “It is an honor to be the first music museum to acknowledge Tupac’s legacy and to bring context to what was an incredible career.”
All Eyez on Me: The Writings of Tupac Shakur will showcase the rapper’s love of words and his talent as a gifted communicator through handwritten lyrics and poems. The exhibit will also feature artifacts from his career breakthrough with hip-hop group, Digital Underground and his rise to fame as a solo artist.
Some of the artifacts to be featured in the exhibit include:
· -Tupac’s handwritten notes, lyrics and poems;
· -Versace suit worn by Tupac at the 1996 38th Annual GRAMMY Awards;
· -Additional outfits worn by Tupac Shakur;
· -Original tape box and studio notes from Tupac Shakur’s first recording after his prison release;
· -Interviews and performance footage of Tupac Shakur and more;
“It means a lot to me that Bob Santelli and the GRAMMY Museum have chosen to honor my son with their upcoming exhibit of his works,” said Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s mother. “Tupac’s writings are an honest reflection of his passions for, and about life. His timeless messages have instilled hope for those who have little, and for others, they serve as a catalyst for change. His words continue to motivate and inspire new generations. The world is a better place because of him.”
All Eyez on Me: The Writings of Tupac Shakur will be on display at the GRAMMY Museum through April 22, 2015. The GRAMMY Museum is located at 800 West Olympic Boulevard, Suite A245, Los Angeles, CA 90015. With an entrance off of Figueroa Street, the Museum resides within the L.A.
