Film Festival News: The Joshua Tree International Film Festival Sept 2015

The Joshua Tree International Film Festival is pleased to announce a flurry of big names added to the line-up. Tangerine star Maya Taylor and comedians Esther Potvitsky and Ian Edwards, will be joining confirmed guests including: Jason Momoa, (Game of Thrones), Bruce Greenwood (Mad Men), Dr. Chris Ryan (N.Y. Times best selling author) and Erin Aubry Kaplan (L.A. Times), with live musical performances by the Haymarket Squares.The JTIFF takes place September 18-20, 2015 in Joshua Tree, California. With over 60 features and shorts, a Red-Carpet Kick-Off Party, panels and an Industry Brunch, live musical performances and the presentation of the JTIFF/Black Lotus Awards to Outstanding Filmmakers, the three-day event has something for everyone. On Saturday, in association with Mil-Tree, the powerful documentary Stray Dog, about a Vietnam veteran and his journey towards healing, with SKYPE appearance by Ron “Stray Dog” Hall; JT Pride and the Black Lotus Institute is hosting a block of LGBTQ friendly films, with special appearance by indie film break-out star Mya Taylor (Tangerine), while 29 Excursions welcomes the critically acclaimed An American Descent, about the first African-American team to climb Mount Denali. Also in the evening, there will be a presentation of 1st Ko Si 3rd, with Filipino star Nova Villa; and A Booze, Blood & Bombshells screening of the horror film Pernicious with stars and the writer/director hosting. Those attending will enjoy free admittance to the following Comedy and Concert Under the Stars, with comedians Ian Edwards and Esther Provitsky stand-up comedy and music by Mike Reyes’ Acoustic Movement.

Set in the art community and against the mesmerizing beauty of Joshua Tree National Park, the event is produced by Eric Quander (aka Q). “The festival marks a turning point for our village. With over 1.6 million tourists visiting annually, this event will give folks another reason to stop for a while, and check all we have to offer,” Quander says. Filmmakers and audiences are expected from all over, including: Japan, Africa and all parts of Europe. Films will be screened at seven different venues throughout Downtown JT, and festivities go on until midnight.

There are still many volunteer and sponsorship opportunities available and festival administrators welcome your interest. Discount passes for Military, Students and Seniors. Children under 12 Free. Discounted Festival Passes for all three days available to Morongo Valley residents for $40 if purchased by midnight September 14 (just enter zip code at check-out).
